The Story

This vintage Danish desk lamp by Vitrika is a refined example of the country's celebrated post-war lighting tradition, a discipline that produced some of the most enduring domestic objects of the twentieth century. Crafted in solid brass and originally designated skrivebordslampe, or writing desk lamp, the piece was conceived for considered domestic use: a study, a desk, a quiet corner where light is intended to be lived with rather than simply switched on.

Active through the 1960s and 1970s, Vitrika sat within a generation of Danish manufacturers who shared a particular sensibility, restraint, material honesty, and an unhurried sense of proportion - alongside houses such as Lyfa and Fog & Mørup. Its silhouette is deliberately spare. Clean geometry, a soft reflective dome, and the warm tonal depth of solid brass give the piece a presence that is felt rather than announced.

Brass from this period ages with particular grace. The finish has begun to mellow into the gentle patina that collectors of Danish design specifically seek out, lending the lamp a warmth that newly produced pieces cannot replicate. The original Vitrika label remains legibly affixed to the underside.

Sold individually, with two available.

Condition Report

The lamp is structurally sound and fully functional.

The solid brass shows minimal wear consistent with age, with light surface mellowing and a soft patina that contribute to its warmth and individuality. The original Vitrika maker's label is intact on the underside.

The electrical wiring has been updated for safe use in modern interiors, with sympathetic braided cloth-covered cord in keeping with the period.

Overall presented in good vintage condition with restored elements.
