The Story
This vintage 1970s Italian dining table is an iconic example of the “UFO” series designed by Luigi Saccardo for Arrmet, and distributed in France by Maison Jansen. A defining piece of Italian modernist design, the table takes its name from the sculptural, otherworldly form of its pedestal base, a concave, bendable sleek stainless steel structure that curves inward toward the centre with an almost architectural sense of motion.
The base supports an original black and transparent glass top, creating a composition that is at once industrial and refined. The interplay between the brushed steel and the layered glass produces a sense of weightlessness, with the top appearing to float above the sculptural pedestal.
This is the largest model in the UFO series, generously proportioned for a dining room or statement interior. Both functional and sculptural, the table remains a defining example of the late Italian Modernist tradition, when designers were pushing industrial materials toward expressive, almost poetic forms.
Condition Report
The table is structurally sound and fully functional.
The brushed steel base shows minimal wear consistent with age.
The original glass top displays a noticeable chip on the edge, and some small surface scratches on the black portion, both consistent with decades of considered use and contributing to the character of the piece.
Overall presented in good vintage condition.
